A pair of Friday evening ferry sailings between Vancouver Island and the Mainland have been cancelled due to a lack of crew, according to BC Ferries.
In a service notice, the company said the Queen of Alberni’s 5 p.m. sailing departing Departure Bay and 7:20 p.m. sailing departing Horseshoe Bay on Friday, Aug. 12 have been scrapped.
It comes in the wake of several cancellations and delays across BC Ferries’ fleet this summer, including two last Sunday between Nanaimo and West Vancouver.
“We require a specific number of crew members on board the vessel to ensure the safety of our passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency and to comply with Transport Canada regulations,” BC Ferries said in the notice.
“The decision to cancel a sailing in these circumstances is made when we have exhausted all options to find replacement crew,” it said, noting that customers will be notified if circumstances change.
